Dr. Judi Leake was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Greenwood, Mississippi, "the heart of the Delta," which translates into flat, flat, flat. At the age of 7 she announced that she would become a veterinarian when she grew up, and this childhood dream became a reality. She graduated from Mississippi State University in 1978, and continued there, receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1982.

Dr. Leake owned a veterinary hospital and pet resort for 12 years in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was the first graduate of Mississippi’s veterinary college to own a hospital that was approved by the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr. Leake was president of the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association for 4 years, vice-president for 2 years, and also received the award for Alumnae of the Year.

Over the past 15 years, Dr. Leake has pursued dentistry and wound management as her special interests in veterinary medicine.  She is currently a Board Member of the Veterinary Wound Management Society, where she is the only primary care veterinarian asked to serve. All other board members are board certified surgeons.

In 1997, Dr. Leake sold her hospital in Mississippi. She then moved to Colorado to marry Medford Leake and become a full time mother to her son, Bonner. Because of her love of veterinary medicine, retirement was short lived, and soon she began planning Red Hill Animal Health Center. In the interim, Dr. Leake worked as a veterinary hospital management consultant for a national firm, Veterinary Practice Consultants. She has also co-authored a textbook on veterinary hospital management. Dr. Leake, Bonner and Medford live outside of Carbondale on the Crystal River where their 2 dogs and 2 cats treasure their time in this beautiful area of Colorado.
